Senior Dental Care covers treatments for disease, pain, repairs, and some rehabilitation. Here we list the main categories included in the reform.
Examination and diagnostics
Basic examination
Complete examination of teeth, gums and mouth – NOT included in Senior Dental Care (covered by regular high-cost protection + ATB/STB)
X-ray examination
X-ray images to detect hidden problems – NOT included in Senior Dental Care (regular high-cost protection + ATB/STB)
Emergency examination
For acute issues like toothache or injuries – NOT included in Senior Dental Care (regular high-cost protection + ATB/STB)
Risk assessment
Assessment of future dental risks – NOT included in Senior Dental Care (regular high-cost protection + ATB/STB)
Preventive care
Professional teeth cleaning

Important to know
*Implant note: Dental implants may be included in Senior Dental Care in some cases, but it depends on tooth position and medical necessity. The basic principle is reimbursement for the most cost-effective treatment that achieves a good functional result.
New fixed tooth- or implant-supported prosthetics behind tooth position 5 (molars) are NOT included. Removable dentures are always included regardless of position. Your dentist will discuss options and provide a clear cost overview before treatment starts.
Treatments NOT included
The following treatments are not covered by Senior Dental Care (special dental reimbursement). They fall under regular high-cost protection, ATB/STB, or full patient payment:
- Teeth whitening - Cosmetic whitening of teeth (no medical indication)
- Cosmetic veneers - Aesthetic veneers or laminates without disease or damage basis
- Orthodontics - Adult braces (normally not included in state dental support for aesthetic reasons)
- Luxury materials or upgrades - Choice of more expensive materials or premium add-ons beyond medical necessity
